How should I store this valerian root oil and what is its shelf life?
Valerian oil is a stable root-distilled oil with a generous shelf life, but oxygen, light and heat will slowly dull its fresh green top notes and deepen the earthy-animalic base. Correct storage protects the batch quality documented in the COA.
Storage Conditions

Shelf Life
- 36 months from the production date when stored unopened under the conditions above
- Once opened, use within 12 months and reseal immediately after each use
- After 24+ months the top green note may soften while the balsamic-animalic base deepens — this is a natural evolution, not a defect
- Discard if the oil turns noticeably turbid, develops an off rancid odour, or shows moisture contamination
For bulk users, we recommend stock rotation (FIFO) and quarterly sensory + GC-MS spot checks to keep your inventory within specification.
