How does neroli oil differ from petitgrain and bitter orange peel oil?

All three come from the bitter orange tree, but from different parts: neroli (flowers) is the most refined and expensive, petitgrain (leaves/twigs) is woody and affordable, and orange blossom absolute/petitgrain differ again — they are not interchangeable.

Quick Comparison

Bitter orange peel oilFruit peelBright citrusLow
Orange blossom absoluteFlowers, solventDeep, sensual floralVery high
  • Substituting petitgrain for neroli changes the character completely — petitgrain lacks the floral richness and indole lift
  • Authenticity risk: some blends mix petitgrain with neroli; our GC-MS fingerprint detects this
  • Choose by application: perfume-grade floral → neroli; budget citrus-woody → petitgrain

Tell us your target scent character and budget, and we will recommend the right oil (or blend) from the bitter orange family.
