How is this lemongrass oil used in scented candles and home fragrance?

Lemongrass oil performs very well in candles and home fragrance because it is non-phototoxic and holds a strong, fresh lemon statement even when diluted in wax. Recommended dosage: 2-5% of the wax weight for candles and melts, 3-10% for reed diffuser concentrates, and 1-5% for incense. The bright citral survives the wax process well when added at the cool-down stage.

  • IFRA Class 12 (non-skin, candles) allows 10-100% — the 2-5% candle dose is comfortably compliant
  • Citral oxidises in light: package candles in UV-protected wraps and keep the finished product cool and dark
  • The classic candle pairing is lemongrass + cedarwood + sweet orange (3:2:2) for a fresh, woody citrus profile
