Is the oil soluble in ethanol, oils or water — what does that mean for formulation?
The oil is soluble in ethanol and fixed oils but insoluble in water — the standard behaviour of a terpene-rich steam-distilled oil, which determines how it must be incorporated in finished formulas.
Solubility and Formulation Guidance
| Medium | Behaviour | Formulation tip |
|---|---|---|
| Ethanol | Soluble | Standard carrier for fine perfumery and sprays |
| Fixed oils (jojoba, fractionated coconut) | Soluble | Dilution for massage and cosmetics |
| DPG / IPM | Soluble | Intermediate carrier for emulsion work |
| Water | Insoluble | Use a solubilizer (e.g. polysorbate 20) or an alcohol blend for mists |
Share your target product form (spray, serum, candle, lotion) and we will recommend the correct dilution and carrier system.
