How is this geranium oil used in scented candles?

Geranium oil is a well-behaved candle fragrance: its rosy-floral note survives wax cooling well, blends with citrus and lavender in best-selling home scents, and doses cleanly at 3-8% of wax weight.

Candle Formulation Guide

ParameterRecommendation
Dose in wax3-8% of wax weight (start at 5%)
Compatible waxesSoy, paraffin, palm, and blends — all work
Flash point≥ 64°C — no special handling vs. low-flash citrus oils
Melt point behaviourStable; no discoloration or frosting observed at 5%
Wick performanceStandard wick sizing; rosy scent throws well
Best blendsGeranium + lavender (floral calm), geranium + bergamot (fresh floral), geranium + patchouli (oriental)
  • Add the oil to the melted wax at 70-80°C, stir thoroughly, and pour — no special order is needed
  • Because flash point is above 60°C, geranium oil does not add the flammability headache that lemon or orange oils can
  • The minty top note of geranium gives candles a fresh lift that customers often describe as "clean floral"
  • Test at 5% first: candle scent throw depends on wax, wick, and room size — adjust dose before finalising the label
  • IFRA 51st home-fragrance limits allow generous geranium doses, but keep your final product within the category limit and keep an IFRA CoC in your file
